Forty percent of mortgage problems a result of quality control issues |
![]() A growing number of mortgage quality control issues are stemmed from missing borrower documents and lack of data integrity, Interthinx reports. According to the risk mitigation firm, 40.9 percent of all mortgage quality control issues are a result of misplaced documentation and data integrity issues, while 18.3 percent are due to problems with a borrower's credit and eligibility. "It's significant when comparing this recent data to data from 2006 to 2009 when missing documentation only accounted for 7.1 percent of all findings," said Interthinx executive vice president Connie Wilson. "If lenders are not outsourcing their quality control processes, they should at least consider having someone from the outside take a look at their processes." Meanwhile, according to the report, if a lender's quality control process too closely mirrors it's mortgage origination process, it becomes much easier for these issues to have a negative impact on overall company performance. Many of today's borrowers are well qualified for home loans and would not be a risk for repurchase if their documentation had not been misplaced, added Interthinx director of quality control Jeremy Burcham. A simply review of all necessary materials could keep qualified lenders from running into any unnecessary issues. |
